More About Darlene

Darlene and her 7 puppies were rescued from a hard life on the street. They were trying to survive in a very busy part of town, where noise, chaos and lots of traffic were the order of the day. Darlene was a good mother and did her best for her puppies, but that kind of life is very stressful. They came to Ocean Acres and Darlene continued to nurse her pups, until they didn’t need her anymore. Now it’s time for Darlene to find love and joy.
Darlene really enjoys her training. She came to us with no idea how to behave and she needed to learn to control her natural exuberance and enthusiasm. She learns very quickly, it took only a day for Darlene to learn how to walk on a lead, not pull, and to not jump up. She is relatively high energy, but with the right guidance she has learned impulse control and how to direct her desire to engage with people. She’s incredibly affectionate. She loves to play fetch and has learned commands and instructions to bring back the ball and to drop it. She tries to please and is always ready to learn something new. She would suit a fairly active home where she could get nice walks and exercise, if she found someone who wanted to go hiking or running or any other activity; we feel sure she would be great company and enjoy it. As well as the energetic stuff, Darlene very much enjoys affection and cuddles.
With regard to other dogs. Darlene has learned to control her initial desire to introduce herself too boldly, and to be too excited around other dogs. She has now learned to go to training classes, integrate with other dogs and behave very well. We would still recommend that she be slowly introduced to other dogs; she is not a candidate for dog parks. We think she would thrive in a home where she could settle into a good routine and her training could be continued; she has huge potential. Darlene would fit well into a home where she was the only dog.
