More About Promise

Promise and her two siblings Peggy and Percy were rescued from a large home with a lot of dogs in Barbados – the owners called Ocean Acres because they didn’t want these poor darlings any longer.

When they came to us, all three were incredibly shy – they clearly had not been socialized at all – they hid in a corner. Of the three, Promise was the most timid, but she has come along quite well since her rescue.

Promise is a beautiful girl – her picture does not do her justice. She would likely do best in an experienced home, with someone that is used to having shy and nervous dogs and understands the patience and calm energy required to help Promise learn to feel safe and trust again. They will come around pretty quickly if placed with someone that knows what they are doing and can provide a safe secure home with a well fenced garden. At first she would present some flight risk if she were to get loose, she wouldn’t necessarily come back if called. Once she settles and understands her new home, that would likely become less of an issue.

Promise would do best in a calm home, older children would be fine. She is good with being touched and cuddled once she gets to know you. She likes to go for walks and does well on a leash. Once she gets walking, she’s happy to sit in a field relaxing and having a good time. Its just her first initial moments where you can see her trust has been broken and she needs patience and love to rebuild that.

She is good with other dogs, and fine with cats.

She deserves someone that will spend time with her so that she can have some fun in her life instead of being scared. She needs a companion to remind her how wonderful the world is. We can’t wait for her to find her special someone.
