Bethany arrived at Ocean Acres in April 2022, along with her brother Bentley and sister Blair . This is more than 2 years ago. Bethany is the smallest one of the three. They were all extremely sad, malnourished and very shy when they arrived. They had no idea how to behave like dogs. The poor babies had received no socialization and no kind or caring interaction at all. It’s been a long road to cheer them up and win their confidence.
Bethany is a happy girl now and she very much enjoys the company of other dogs. It takes her a while to warm up to new humans, but she very much loves the ones she’s got to know. She often goes on walks and hikes and is good on leash. She will need a calm and safe home, with someone who has experience in dealing with shy and anxious dogs. Bethany really is ready for the next step now, to further her education and allow her to move on past life at Ocean Acres. Bethany would be considered a flight risk; if something happened out of the ordinary and she got away, she would probably panic and it would be most likely be hard to catch her. Because of this she would definitely need a well fitted martingale collar and gps tracker. Her home would need to be secure, ideally with a fenced garden; so that if she did get out, she would be contained. Bethany has never shown any inclination to jump out of pens or try to escape. Her go to response is to run back to her house if something bothers her. It would not suit her at the moment to be around children who were loud and too lively. She has never lived in a house so would need support in getting used to that and she would need the company of at least one calm and confident dog to show her the ropes.
Bethany is desperate for help, and needs a person or family who will be patient and committed to providing her with the love, care and security she needs to fulfil her potential. When Bethany very first came to us, she was terrified, but never once did it look like she might bite out of fear.
Bethany is approximately 24lbs
