More About Bentley

This strikingly handsome boy is Bentley.  Bentley arrived at Ocean Acres in April 2022, along with his sisters Bethany and BlairThat is well over two years at Ocean Acres. When they arrived they were extremely sad, malnourished and very shy.  They had received no socialization and no kind or caring interaction; all they wanted to do was to hide behind cupboards.  It’s been a long road to cheer them up and win their confidence.  They are happy dogs now and they very much enjoy the company of other dogs.  Ideally Bentley and his sisters would have gone into foster care sooner than this, but sadly they keep being overlooked.

Bentley will need a calm and safe home, with someone who has experience of dealing with anxiety in dogs.  He really is ready for the next step now, to further his education and allow him to move on past life at Ocean Acres.  However, because he’s been at Ocean Acres for so long, moving somewhere else may trigger old anxiety, we can’t be sure.  Because of this, we would consider him a potential ‘flight risk’, in as much as, if he got loose and panicked, he might be hard to catch.  His default reaction to things that bother him, is to haul up in a corner, not race for the door.  But we prefer always to err on the side of caution.  To be on the safe side he would need a well fitted martingale collar and gps tracker; just in case anything unexpected happened.  We want him to have a secure home, ideally with a fenced garden; so that if he did get out, he would be contained.  Bentley has never made any effort to jump out of pens or escape.  He currently lives in a chain link area outside our offices, with 2 other dogs.  We think it would stress him to be around children who were loud and too lively.  The company of another calm, happy dog to show him the ropes would be very beneficial to him in a new environment.

Bentley enjoys daily walks with other dogs and alone.  He goes in and out of the office at Ocean Acres and we are trying to familiarize him to new people and situations all the time. He does great in a household environment.  He is unsure about young children and doesn’t enjoy puppy energy.  He is doing really well and enjoying his life.  Bentley is looking for a calm and confident person or family to be patient and committed to providing him with the love, care and security he needs to fulfil his potential.  Throughout the whole time we have had him, even at his most scared, he has not been snappy out of fear.

Bentley is approximately 40lbs
